Alfred Maxwell Allen [also known as A. Maxwell Allen] was born in Croydon, Surrey, England on 16 February 1904 and worked as an architect in London in the 1920s and 1930s. A photograph of 'Aros Shona' a house at Felbridge, near East Grinstead in Sussex, designed by Allen is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1934 (p.20). This issue of 'Decorative Art also contains a photograph and description of a room in a house at the Modern Homes Exhibition, Gidea Park, Essex, furnished by Betty Joel Ltd., in collaboration with A. Maxwell Allen (p.62).
Allen was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1926.
Allen's address was given as Wandle Court Beddington, Beddington, Surrey in the 1911 census, and Claridges, Lingfield, Surrey in 1926 and 1938. By 1947 he had moved to South Africa. He died in Durban, South Africa on 14 December 1995
