Bailey, Harold Frank

Harold Frank Bailey [also known as H. F. Bailey] was born in Chichester, Sussex, England on 20 October 1908.  Nothing is known about his training or early career architect. He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1941.

Until his retirement in 1970, he was chief architect for the stationery and newspaper chain W. H. Smith & Son Ltd. An all-aluminium (aluminum) bookstall designed by Bailey for W.H. Smith at Marylebone Station, London is described in ‘Art and Industry’ October 1949 (p.154).

Bailey's address was given as 19 Sussex Way, Barnet, Southgate, Middlesex in 1939, and 46 Houndsden Road, Winchmore Hill, London in 1950 and 1973.  He died in Enfeld, Middlesex on 26 May 1973.
