Henry George Baker was born in Dawlish, Devon, England in 1875. He attended the Technical School in Saltaire, Yorkshire and at Sheffield College. He was articled to his father at Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire in 1891 and remained as his assistant until 1901. He was employed as an assistant by Sheffield Corporation Architects' Department from 1901 to 1903; and in the Admiralty Works Department, H.M. Dockyards at Chatham from 1903 to 1906. He was subsequently worked as Architect and Surveyor to Rawlence & Squarey in London from 1906 and 1910; and as an assistant to John E. Kingdom in Aldershot, Surrey from 1910. In 1912 he was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA).
Baker's address was given as Sandringham House, Dawlish, Devon in 1881; 171, Spring Vale Road, Nether Hallam, Yorkshire in 1901; 20, Lansdowne Road, Aldershot, Surrey in 1911 and 1939; Bank House, 21 Grosvenor Road, Aldershot, Surrey in 1923 and 1930; and 41 Grosvenor Road, Aldershot, Surrey in 1939. He died at Lower Bourne, Farnham, Surrey in 1962.
