Bennett, Edmund John 1857 - 1923

Edmund John Bennett was born in Gravesend, Kent, England on 4 April in 1857 and was articled to William Gilbee Habershon (1818?-1891) and Alfred Robert Pite (1832-1911) of Habershon & Pite in London in 1876. He then worked as an assistant to Habershon; David Edward Thomas of Haverfordwest; and Pite.  He was employed as principal assistant to Herbert Duncan Appleton (1853-1936) from 1881 to c.1898. He qualified as an architect in 1887 and subsequently practised in Gravesend, Kent. He was architect to the K. and E. Land Co., and architect to the Gravesend Housing Scheme.

Bennett was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1887.  His address was given as 5 Harmer Street, Gravesend, Kent in 1887; 24 Darnley Road, Gravesend in 1893 and 1911; and 2 Pelham Road, Gravesend in 1923.  He died in Gravesend Hospital, Gravesend, Kent on 31 October 1923.
