Richard Henry Percy Bevis was born in Portsea Island, Hampshire, England in 1883 and was articled to his father, Charles William Bovis (1854-1927), from 1898 to 1902. He then worked as an assistant to Colonel Gordon from 1902 to 1905, to Harry Bell Measures (1862-1940) from 1905 to 1907, and to his father from 1907 to 1910. He qualified as an architect in 1910 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1911.
Bevis commenced practice as an architect in Southsea in 1910 and was in partnership with his father as Chas. W. Bevis & Son. The name of the practice remained unchanged after the death of Bevis senior in 1927. Richard Henry Percy Bevis died in Portsmouth, Hampshire on 13 February 1947.
