Black, Ernest 1855 - 1917

Ernest Black was born in Brighton, Sussex, England 1855 and was baptised on 29 August 1855. Nothing is known about his training as an architect.  In 1882 he joined the Brighton architectural practise Holford & Clayton, formed by Charles Edward Clayton (1853-1923) and George Holford (1851-1938) in 1876. The practice was subsequently renamed Holford, Clayton & Black.  When Holford withdrew from the partnership in 1883, the practice became Clayton & Black.  Black died in Brighton on 7 April 1917.
