Henry Blackman was born in Catsfield, East Sussex, England on 5 January 1856. It is not known where and with whom he trained as an architect. He was Architect and Surveyor to the Battle Abbey Estate; and the Ashburnham Estate in East Sussex. By 1939 he had retired as an architect.
Throughout his career as an architect he lived in Catsfield where he died on 3 June 1948.
