Brakspear, Harold 1870 - 1934

Harold Brakspear [also known as Sir Harold Brakspear] was born in Sale, Cheshire, near Manchester, England on 10 March 1870. He was articled to his father, William Hayward Brakspear (1818-1898), in 1887 and remained with him as his assistant.  He qualified as an architect in 1892 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1893. He commenced independent practice as an architect in Corsham, Wiltshire late that year.  He was appointed Consulting Architect to the Dean and Canons of Windsor; Consulting Architect to the Dean and Chapter of Worcester Cathedral. He died in Bath, Somerset on 20 November 1934.

Church restorations at Malmsbury Abbey, Nuneaton Abbey, Shrewsbury Abbey, Pershore Abbey, Worksop Priory, Box, Lacock, Tockenham; Langley Burrell, Rodbourne; Dauntsey, Westbury; St. Peter's, Bristol; St. Woolos, Newport; and other churches. House restorations: Great Chalfield Manor, Malmsbury Abbey House, Tockenham Manor, Little Sudbury Manor, Lacock Abbey; Corsham Almshouses, &c Domestic work: "Oceanways," and a number of other houses round Chippenham.
