John Sydney Brocklesby was born in Hornsey, Middlesex, England on 11 October 1879. He was articled to Frank Edward Smee (1865-1942) in London from 1896 to 1901 and remained as his assistant in 1901-02. He then worked as an assistant in the London County Council Architects' Housing Division in 1902-03, and to J. T. Pilditch from 1903. From 1902 to 1906 he was in partnership with Wallace Marchment (1880-1940) and Harry Edward East (1877-?).
Brocklesby qualified as an architect in 1904. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1905 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1922. He died in Weymouth Dorset, England on 28 June 1955.
