Bromley, Henry Thomas 1872 - 1960

Henry Thomas Bromley was born in Camberwell, Surrey [now London], England on 23 September 1872. He was articled to Robert Alexander Briggs (1858-1916) from 1889 to 1892 and remained as his assistant until 1894. He also studied at the Architectural Association Schools in London, King's College, London, and Regent Street Polytechnic in London.  He worked as an assistant to Arthur Crow (1860-1936) and Daniel Cubitt Nicholls (1825-1895).  He qualified as an architect in 1899 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year. He was also a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (M.I.Struct.E.).

In c.1903 he moved to India and was City Architect and Building Surveyor for Calcutta Corporation until c.1908. By 1908 he had returned to London and became District Surveyor for East Wandsworth, Stepney West and St. Marylebone West. He was also Assistant Architect to Woolwich Borough Council.

Bromley's address was given as 52 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London in 1899; Municipal Offices, Calcutta, India in 1903; 50 Hendham Road, Upper Tooting, London in 1911; 196 Balham High Road, Balham, London in 1914; 130 Whitechapel High Street, London in 1920; 104 Clifton Hill, St. John's Wood, London in 1929; The Abbey House, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1939; and Leys Close, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire in 1948. He retired as an architect in 1948 and died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on 14 October 1960.
