Brown, George Lawton 1868 - 1934

George Lawton Brown was born in Leicester, Leicestershire, England on 7 August 1868 and was articled to James Tait (1834?-1915) in Leicester from 1883 to 1888. He then went to William Henry Bidlake (1862-1938) in Birmingham as an improver in 1888.  He worked as an assistant to William Harvey Lloyd in Leamington in 1889-90 and commenced independent practice as an architect in Leicester in 1890. During the 1920s he was in partnership with Percy Charles Jones (1883-1951) as Brown & Jones in Leicester.

Brown was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911.   His address was given as "Myrtle Dene" Knightson Drive, Leicester in 1901; Forest Drive Kirby Muxloe Leicester in 1911; Spencer Chambers, 4, Market Place, Leicester in 1914 and 1933. He died on 11 August 1934. His obituary appeared in the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects 1934 p.143.
