Bruce, Donald 1834 - 1919

Donald Bruce was born in Caithness, Scotland in 1834. He was articled to William Spence (1806-1883) in Glasgow in 1863 and remained with him as his assistant until 1880. He also attended Glasgow School of Art. He commenced independent practice as an architect in Glasgow in 1880. and from 1880 to c.1919 was in partnership with Edward alexander Buckingham Hay (1855-1934) as Bruce & Hay. From 1881 to 1905 Bruce was surveyor to the Town Council of Kinning Park for whom he designed a number of municipal buildings. He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911.  He died in Gourock, Scotland on 20 February 1919

Archbishop of Glasgow, and Bothwell Parish School Board; also some municipal buildings, baths, halls, &c.
