Bruckland, John Frederick 1926 - 1990

John Frederick Bruckland [commonly known as John Bruckland] was born on 20 June 1926 and studied architecture at the Northern Polytechnic from where he graduated in 1951. He subsequently practised as an architect sometimes in association with the Design Research Unit (DRU) with whom he designed a series of exhibitions at the London Olympia in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He was associate architect with Misha Black of the DRU in the design of the British Furniture Exhibition in London in 1957, and collaborated with Milner Gray of the DRU and Ronald Ingles in the remodelling of the exterior of the Prince Alfred pub in Lambeth, London, in 1959-60.

With Ronald Sandiford Bruckland designed a bicentenary exhibition for Christie’s in London in 1967 and in 1977 he collaborated with the New York practice of Goldstone & Hinz on the design of the interiors of a New York branch of Christie’s at the Delmonico Hotel in New York City. One of Bruckland's most notable commissions was the design of the shop front of Wartski Jewellers at 14 Grafton Street, London, in 1974

Bruckland was an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA). He died on 9 October 1990. His address at the time of his death was 4 Hunter Street, London
