Butterworth, Harold 1893 - 1969

Harold Butterworth was born 22 March 1893 and was the son of the architect Thomas Butterworth  (1856-1939).  He was articled to his his father at his practice, J. H. Andrews & Butterworth, in Manchester, England. [The practice had been founded in the early 1890s by Butterworth senior and John Harris Andrews (1846-1907). Following the death of Andrews, he continued the practice with the name unchanged. until the late-1930's.].   

Harold Butterworth also attended Manchester University School of Architecture for five years. After working as an assistant in the offices of Stott & Butterworth in Rochdale and Andrews & Titmas, Manchester, he joined his father's practice and took it over when his father died in 1939. The business was dissolved not long after, following the outbreak of World War Two.

He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1922 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1939. His address was given as 19, Brazennose Street, Manchester in 1923 and 1926; 9 St. James Square, Manchester in 1930 and 1939; and 49 Sherbourne Rd., Blackpool, Lancashire in 1939. He died in 1969. His death was registered in Blackpool.
