Ernest William Cannell was born in Chelsea Middlesex [now London], England in 1870 and was articled to John Scott [assumed to be John Douglas Scott (1865-1950)] in London. He commenced independent practice in London in 1900. He also lectured for many years on Buildings Construction, Design and Quantities at Borough Polytechnic in London; Northampton Institute; Birkbeck College, University of London; and elsewhere. He was a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1925. He died in Ernest, Surrey on 8 November 1930
