Clark, Charles Walter 1885 - 1972

Charles Walter Clark was born in Battersea, Surrey [now London] on 28 September 1885. He was was articled to Henry John Snell (1843-1924) in Plymouth, Devon, England from 1901 to c,1906 and remained with him as his assistant  He moved to London where he attended classes at the Architectural Association Schools. He also worked as an assistant to Arnold Bidlake Mitchell (1863-1944); to Walter James Burrows (1861-1922) and in the Architects' Department of the London & South Coast Railway.  He qualified as an architect in 1908 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year. He subsequently worked as Architectural Assistant to the Engineer of the Metropolitan Railway in London.  Between 1911 and 1933 he designed 25 railway stations for the company.  He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1930.  He died in Kingsbridge, Devon in 1972

As Architectural Assistant to Engineer of Metropolitan Railway, has been associated with Baker Street Station improvements, 1912; new general offices for Metropolitan Railway Co., 1913; large block of flats, Chalfont Court, 1914; and various other buildings on this railway.
