Claypole, Edward Ernest Blunt 1873 - 1928

Edward Ernest Blunt Claypole was born in Frimley, Surrey, England in 1873.  He was articled to William Ravenscroft (1848-1943) from 1891 to 1894 and remained with him as his assistant for a further year. He then worked as an assistant to Robert Clifton Davy (1851-1908) and Stephen Salter (1862-1956) of Davy & Salter in Maidenhead, Berkshire in 1896-97 and to Sir Aston Webb (1849-1930) from 1898.  In 1909 he qualified as an architect and in 1910 was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA).

Claypole subsequently practised as an architect in London.  In the 1920s he was in partnership with (?) Thorp as Thorp & Claypool.  His address was given as 19 Queen Ann's Gate, Westminster, London, and Strathmore, 32 Kingscourt Road, Streatham, London in 1910:  11, Argyll Place, Regent Street, London in 1914;  and 47, Victoria Street, Westminster, London in 1923 and 1927. He died at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill, Surrey on 25 May 1928
