Clyne, Arthur 1853 - 1924

Arthur Clyne was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1853 and was articled to James Matthews (1820-1898) in Aberdeen from c.1863 to c.1873. He then worked as an assistant to Andrew Heiton (1823-1894) in Perth.  Clyne commenced independent practice in Aberdeen in c.1876 and 1881 formed a partnership with John Bridgeford Pirie (1848-1892) in Aberdeen. The partnership was dissolved following the death of Pirie and Clyne subsequently worked alone.

Clyne was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (F.R.I.B.A.) in 1901 and was a Fellow of the Institute of the Architects, Scotland (F.I.Archts, Scot). He was also a founder member of the Aberdeen Society of Architects in 1898 and its President from 1900 to 1904 and from 1909 to 1913.  He retired from active practice in 1914 and died in Charlwood, Surrey in 1924.
