Compton, Charles Edward 1863 - 1937

Charles Edward Compton was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1863 and was articled to William Gilbee Habershon (1818?-1891) and James Follett Fawckner (1828?-1898) of Habershon & Fawckner. He commenced independent practice as an architect in Newport in 1890 and was Architect to the Ebbw Vale Industrial Provident Society.  He became a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) in 1895.

In addition to his work as an architect, Compton was also a painter. Newport Art Gallery has three watercolours by him of local scenes.  He died in Newport, Monmouthshire on 21 April 1937
