Conder, Alfred 1845 - 1931

Alfred Conder was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England on 8 April 1845 and was articled to Thomas H. Taylor, the Borough Surveyor of Ipswich in 1861. In 1862 he transferred his articles to Richard Henry Moore in London with whom he remained until 1866. He then worked as principal assistant in the office of John Whichcord (1823-1885) from 1866 to 1877 when he commenced independent practice as an architect in London. He was appointed District Surveyor for Greenwich and Woolwich.

Conder was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1873 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1886.  

His address was given as 1 Park West, Gloucester Gate, Regent's Park, London in 1873; 11 Victoria Street, London in 1877; Palace Chambers, Bridge Street, London in 1886; 1 Queen Street Place, London in 1914 and 1923; 52, Shepherd's Hill, Highate, London in 1926 and 1931; and 42 Cecile Park, Crouch End, London in 1930. He died in Highgate, Middlesex [now London] on 16 April 1931.
