Craske, Clifford Wigg 1892 - 1969

Clifford Wigg Craske was born at 1 Ossington Villas, Nottingham, England on 17 January 1892.  By the tiime of the 1911 England and Wales Census he was living at 14 Elvin Road, Dareham, Norfolk and gave his occupation as architectural student.  He was articled to Harry Gill in Nottingham.  He evidently served with distinction during World War One as he was awarded a Military Medal.   He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1920.  By the early 1920s he had moved to London and in 1922 gave his address as 130 Abbey Road, West Hampstead.

Craske worked as an architectural assistant to the Education Committee in 1919 and Housing Department in 1920 of the City of Birmingham; Wlilesden District Council from 1920 to 1924; and to Greenwich Borough Council in 1925.  He was subsequently employed in the Engineer and Surveyor's Department at the Town Hall in Greenwich, London until at least 1939.

I would seem that while working at Greenwich Borough Council he may also have also had a private practice.  Houses in Cambridge designed by Craske are discussed in Small Houses £500-£2500, edited by H. Myles Wright (1937 pp. 48-49).

Craske died in Chertsey, Surrey on 30 January 1969.
