Cromie, Robert 1887 - 1971

Robert Cromie was born in Battersea, London, England on 29 November 1887. He was articled to Alfred John Wood (1861-?) in London from 1905 to 1909 and remained with him as an assistant for a further year.  During these years he also attended University College, London and the Architectural Association Schools in London.  From 1910 he was employed as an assistant to William Robert Crewe (1863-1937) in London.

By 1914 Cromie was in independent practice as an architect in London and specialised in the design of theatres and cinemas. He was a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA) and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1914, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1921.

His address was given as 2 Grandison Road, Clapham, London in  1891;  30 Sisters Avenue, Battersea, London in 1901; 3 Cavendish Road, Clapham, London in 1911 and 1914; 39, Victoria Street, Westminster, London in 1914; 8, Gloucester Mansions, Cambridge Circus, London in 1923; 73, Edgware Road, Marble Arch, London in 1926; 35 Baker Street, London in 1930 and 1935; 6 Cavendish Square, London in 1939; 10 Manchester Square, Marylebone, London in 1953; and Highmoor Park, Highmoor, Oxfordshire in 1954 and 1957.  He died at his home, Merton House, 65 Bell Street, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire on 12 January 1971.
