Davy, Clifton Robert 1879 - 1979

Clifton Robert Davy was born the son of the architect Robert Clifton Davy (1851-1908) in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England in 1879. He was articled to his father from 1898 and 1902 and remained as an assistant until 1905. He also attended Reading University and the Architectural Association Schools in London. In 1905 he formed a partnership with his father in Maidenhead. Following the death of Davy senior in 1908, he continued in independent practice. He was later in partnership with Frank Woods (1881-1950) and George Ernest Nield (1864-1945).

Architectural projects by Davy included a number of business premises; studio flats in Mulberry Walk, Chelsea, London; the Temple Golf Club House in Berkshire; and numerous private houses.  A photograph of a modelled plaster ceiling designed and executed by G. P. Bankart for the drawing-room at 'Somerlea' in Maidenhead, a house designed by Davy, is illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1911 (p.93).

Davy was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1910, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1921.  He died in Ruislip in Middlesex on 23 March 1929.
