Deas, Francis William 1862 - 1951

Francis William Deas was born in Alverstoke, Hampshire, England in December 1862, the son of the architect Sir David Deas (1807-1876). He was articled to Sir Robert Rowand Anderson (1894-1921) of Wardrop & Anderson in Edinburgh, Scotland from 1890 to 1894 and remained with the firm until 1896 as an assistant. He also attended the School of Applied Art in Edinburgh. He commenced practice as an independent architect in Edinburgh in 1897 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1907.  He remained in Edinburgh throughout his career as an architect and died in Edinburgh on 13 November 1951
