Dickens-Lewis, George Edwards 1876 - 1919

George Edwards Dickens-Lewis [also known as George Edwards Dickens Lewis] was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England in 1876 and was articled to A. T. Davis, the County Architect of Shropshire from 1893 to 1896. He was also an assistant to C. R. Dalgleish in Wellington, Shropshire in 1897-98.

Dickens-Lewis commenced independent practice as an architect in Shrewsbury and Wellington in 1898 [or 1899 - sources differ] and was in partnership with Dalgleish from 1898 [or 1899]  to 1902.  In 1905 Dickens-Lewis opened an office in Aberystwyth. From 1905 he was County Architect for Cardiganshire and was appointed the first architect to Cardiganshire Education Committee in c.1911  In 1912 he was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British architects (LRIBA) in 1912.  He was also a Member of the Society of Architects (MSA).

He designed numerous schools in the Cardiganshire area as well as churches and various other buildings.  He died in Shrewsbury on 18 September 1919.
