Frederick George Drewitt was born in Barthomley, Cheshire, England on 26 January 1877 and was articled to Goodwin Simpson Packer (1857-1932) in Southport, Lancashire in 1895 and remained as his assistant until 1902. He then worked as an assistant to Jonas James Bradshaw (1837-1912) and John Bradshaw Gass (1855-1939) of Bradshaw & Gass from 1902 to 1904; and to Atkinson & Dallas in Shanghai, China from 1904 to 1909.
Drewitt commenced independent practice as an architect in Birkdale, near Southport in 1909. By 1911 he had relocated his office to Penzance in Cornwall. In the early 1920s he formed a partnership with Herbert Lee Cowell (1873-1930) and Reginald Francis Wheatly (1879-1959) as Cowell, Drewitt & Wheatly which had offices in Truro and Penzance, Cornwall. Following the death of Cowell in 1930, the original title of the firm was retained until it closed in the 1950s.
Drewitt was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1931.
Drewitt died on 28 August 1958. His address at the time of his death was 7 Kings Road, Polwithen, Penzance, Cornwall.
