Ernest William Dyson was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England on 15 May 1870 and was articled to George Moxon in Barnsley from 1885 to 1891. He then worked as an assistant to Frank Morton Palmer (1851-1947) in Horwich, Lancashire in 1891-92.
Dyson commenced independent practice as an architect in Horwich in 1892 and later relocated his practice to Barnsley. By the early 1920s he was senior partner in the firm Dyson, Cawthorne & Coles
He submitted an entry in a competition to design the High School for Girls in Barnsley, Yorkshire. His designs are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 1, no. 11, November 1906 (p. 18)
Dyson was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1912. He died on 4 July 1921. His address at the time of his death was 30 Pollitt Street, Barnsley, Yorkshire
