Edwards, Alfred Hewlett 1883 - 1954

Alfred Hewlett Edwards was born in Enderby, Leicestershire, England in 1883. He was articled to A. T. Draper and J. Tudor Walters (1868-1933) of Draper & Walters in Leicester from 1898 to 1902 and remained with them as their assistant until 1905. He then worked as an assistant to Gilbert Wilson Fraser (1873-1954) in 1905-06; and to John Breedon Everard (1844?-1923), Bernard Everard and Samuel Perkins Pick (1858?-1919)  of Everard, Son & Pick from 1906 to 1909. He also attended the Municipal Schools of Art and Technology in Leicester.

Edwards qualified as an architect in 1909 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year.  He commenced independent practice in Cashalton, Surrey in 1909. Drawings and plans of a house designed by him are illustrated in Designs for One Hundred Ideal £1,000 Houses. Being copies of the hundred best designs entered in the 1912 Daily Mail Architects' Competition (1912 p.58).

Edwards' address was given as 30 Albert Bridge Road, Battersea, London in 1909; Blakehall Road, Carshalton, Surrey in 1912; Wales Avenue, Cashalton, Surrey in 1914; Manor Way Ruislip, Middlesex in 1923; c/o Maintenance Division, H. M. Office of Works, Storey's Gate, Westminster, London in 1930; Hill Farm, Ruislip, Middlesex in 1939; and Nether End, Austrey, Atherstone, Warwickshire in 1954. He died on 20 October 1954
