Burkett John Emery was born in Chelsea, London, England in 1884. He trained as an architect under Ralph Scott Cockrill (1879-?) in Lowestoft, Suffolk and commenced independent practice in Birmingham in 1909. He was elected a member of the Society of Architects (MSA).
A drawing and floor plan for a pair of houses designed by Emery are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1913 (pp.22, 23).
During World War One Emery served as a commissioned officer in the Staffordshire Territorials and was killed in an assault on the Hohenzollern Redoubt during the Battle of Loos in France on 13 October 1915
