John William Fair was born in Oxted, Surrey, England on 26 February 1871 and was articled to Arthur Schofield in Manchester. He also attended the Architectural Association Schools in London in 1904. Fair commenced independent practice as an architect in London, England in 1904 and from c.1904 was was partnership with George Valentine Myer (1883-1954) Fair & Myer.
Fair's address was given as 20 and 22 Maddox Street, London, and 22 Gayton Road, Hampstead, London in 1911; and 39 Furnival Street, London, and Riverslea, Marsh Lock, Henley-on-Thames in 1914. He died in Grassthorpe, Nottinghamshire on 23 January 1915.
