Alfred Herbert Gardner was born on Warwickshire, England on 22 April 1902. It is not known where and with whom he trained as an architect. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1927 and practised in Warwick, Warwickshire. In the 1930s he was a partner with Charles Montague Cecil Armstrong (1874-1959) in the architectural firm Armstrong & Gardner which had offices at 39 High Street, Warwick, Warwickshire and 16 Priory Row, Coventry, Warwickshire. He died in Warwickshire in 1996
