Joseph George Gibbons was born in Handsworth, Staffordshire, England on 21 May 1885. He was articled to Francis Baugh Andrews (1867-1936) and attended Birmingham School of Art. He practised as an architect in Birmingham, Worcestershire from 1912 until at least the late 1930s.
Gibbons was admitted a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1925. His address was given as 24 Bennetts Hill, Moseley, Birmingham and 33 Hill Crest Road, Moseley, Birmingham in 1914; 60 Springfield Road, King's Heath, Birmingham in 1923; 50 Sand uffolk Street, Birmingham in 1926 and 1939. He died in Stourbridge, Worcestershire on 7 October 1962. At the time of his death he was living at 15 Raddens Road, Lapal, Halesowen, Worcestershire
