Gibson, William Garnett 1880 - 1969

William Garnett Gibson was born in the Kendal, Westmoreland, England on 9 November 1880. He was articled to the architect Thomas Hayton Mawson (1899-1902) and remained with him as his assistant. He was also an assistant to the architects Cheal & Sons in Crawley, West Sussex, from c.1910.

A photograph of the pergola at 'The Grove', West Hartlepool, designed by Gibson and executed by Garden Crafts Ltd. is featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1908 (illustration B31).

Gibson was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911.  Gibson lived in Crawley, West Sussex and in Windermere. He is known to have been active as an architect until at least the late 1920s. He died on 2 October 1969. His death was registered in Newcastle upon Tyne.
