Humphrey Hugh Goldsmith was born in Foots Cray, Kent, England on 7 September 1904. He trained as an architect in the 1920s and was awarded the RIBA Howard Colls Studentship in 1924. He subsequently worked as an architect in London, and from c.1930, with his brother, Edward Felix Goldsmith (1903-1976), was in partnership with Francis (Frank) John Potter (1871-1948) as Frank Potter and F. & H. Goldsmith at 1 Verulam Buildings, Gray's Inn, London. The partnership was dissolved in 1938. He then worked with Graham Richards Dawbarn (1893-1976) and Nigel Norman in the architectural firm Norman & Dawbarn.
Humphrey Hugh Goldsmith was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1931. His address was given as 1 Verulam Buildings, Gray's Inn, London in 1932 and 1938; Universal House, 60 Buckingham Palace Road, London and Julian Hill, Weybridge, Surrey in 1939; 18 Gay Street, Bath, Somerset in 1963; and 2 Draycott Court, Henrietta Gardens, Bath, Somerset in 1979. He died in Bath, Somerset on 13 June 1979.
