Wilfred Stuart Gorringe was born in Seaford, Sussex, England in 1885. He was articled to Frank Edward Smee (1865-1942) in London from 1904 to 1906 and remained as an improver for a further year, and as Clerk of Works in 1908. He then worked as an assistant to Frederick G. Cooke (1858-1938) in Eastbourne, Sussex from 1908 to 1910 when he commenced practice as an independent architect in Seaford. He qualified as an architect in 1911 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) later that year.
Gorringe died on 10 June 1918 whilst serving in the 82nd Field Company of the Royal Engineers in France during World War One and is buried at the Marfaux British Cemetery in Marfaux, Departement de la Marne, Champagne-Ardenne, France.
