Alexander Wood Graham-Brown [also known as Alexander Wood Graham Brown] was born on 1 June 1885 [probably in Scotland] and was articled to Arthur George Sydney Mitchell (1856-1930) and George Wilson (c.1887-?) of Sydney Miltchell & Wilson in Edinburgh from c.1903 to c.1908. In c.1908 he moved to London where he worked as an assistant to Collcutt & Hamp until 1914.  Following service in the armed forces during World War One, he emigrated to China in 1919 and established his own architectural practice in Shanghai.  He was for a period in partnership with George Christopher Wingrove (c.1885-1931) as Graham-Brown & Wingrove.

During his years working in Shanghai, he designed at least two banks, the War Memorial of the Shanghai Club, and the Brunner Mond Office Building on Szechuen Road where he had an office.

Graham-Brown was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1923.   He died on 19 April 1944.  He may have returned to Scotland towards the end of his life as he is buried in Edinburgh
