Gray, George Herbert 1856 - 1929

George Herbert Gray

George Herbert Gray was born in Westminster, Middlesex [now London], England in 1856 and was articled to Edward Burgess in London and Leicester in 1879.  In the 1881 England and Wales Census he gave his occupation as Architect and was living at 3 Langdon Road, Islington, London, Middlesex [now London]. By 1887 he had moved to Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex where he established an independent practice.  

He was appointed Acting Architect and Surveyor to Earl de la Warr's Bexhill and Cooden Estates in 1889. He was also Surveyor to the Glyne Estate in Bexhill, and the Fox Rock Estate in Co. Dublin.

Gray was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1925, and was Mayor of Borough of Bexhill in 1918 and 1919.  He died in Bexhill on 18 January 1929.
