Padraic Gregory

Patrick Bernard Gregory [also known as Pádraig Gregory, Pádraic Gregory, and as Padric Gregory] was born in Belfast, Ireland September 1886  and was articled to John J. O'Shea (1872?-1919). He subsequently commenced practice as an architect in Belfast in 1906, and from c.1907 he was in partnership with J. Norman Hall as Gregory & Hall. Their office was located at 124 Donegall Street, Belfast. By 1913 the partnership had been dissolved and Gregory then practised alone at the same address until c.1924 when he relocated to 25 Gresham Street, Belfast,. Apart from a break from 1931 to 1935 when he ran his business from 3 College Square North, Belfast, he remained at 25 Gresham Street, for the rest of his career as an architect.  In 1920 he was appointed by Downpatrick Town Commissioners for their housing scheme.

Gregory adopted the Irish form of his first name, Padraig, in c.1935, although as early as 1914 he was also using Padric as his first name. In 1951 or 1952 he formed a partnership with his son Patrick Brian Gregory as P. & B. Gregory.

Patrick Bernard Gregory was elected a Member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (MRIAI) in 1920. He was also elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1931 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1936.  He died in 1962
