Greig, Charles Henry 1871 - 1928

Charles Henry Greig was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 16 April 1871. He was articled to George Sydney Mitchell (1856-1930) and George Wilson (1845-1912) of Mitchell & Wilson in Edinburgh from 1889 to c.1893 and was an improver with him for eighteen months. During these years he attended Edinburgh University; Edinburgh Royal Institution Art School; Edinburgh Technical College and Herlot-Watt Technical College in Edinburgh.  After leaving Mitchell he worked as a draughtsman to John Eaglesham (1855-1922) in Ayr from c.1894 to 1897; and to Edinburgh City Architect's Department under Robert Morham (1839-1912) and James Anderson Williamson (1860-1935) from 1897 to c.1901. He was then employed as a manager by George Dale Oliver (1851-1928), Edward John Dodgshun (1854-1927) and Leslie Sydney Dodgshun (1875-?) in Carlisle and Leeds in c.1901-02.

During his four years with Edinburgh City Architect's Department he worked as a draughtsman on plans for Edinburgh City Infections Diseases Hospital, made a special study of hospital construction, and prepared competition and other plans for various architects.

Greig commenced independent practice in Edinburgh in 1902 and was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911. He died in Stirling, Stirling, Scotland on 29 October 1928
