Harwood, Arnold William 1886 - 1953

Arnold William Harwood was born in Sunderland, England on 28 April 1886. Nothing is known about his training as an architect.  From c.1914 he was in partnership with Marshall Eyre Walker (c.1881-1966) as as Walker & Hardwood in London. The firm was known for domestic and restoration work in the Southern and Midland counties. The address of Walker & Harwood was given as 21 Suffolk Street, Pall Mall East, London in 1926 and 1939.

A drawing and two floor plans of a house in Buckinghamshire designed by Harwood are featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1911 (p.38),  a photograph of the hall, Billesley Manor, Warwickshire, restored by Walker & Harwood is featured in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative art' 1915 (p.116), two photographs showing the house and garage, stable and coachman's room at 'Delaford', Batts Corner in Farnham, Surrey, designed by Walker & Harwood are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1925 (p.22),  a photograph of 'Maylands' in Radlett in Hertfordshire designed by Walker & Harwood is illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1926 (p.12);  a photograph of a brick chimneypiece in a house at Radlett, Hertfordshire, designed by Walker & Harwood is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1927 (p.50); a photograph of a drawing room fireplace, designed by Walker & Harwood is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1931 (p.115).; and a photograph of a house at Leatherhead, Surrey, designed by Walker & Harwood is illustrated in 'Decorative Art' 1932 (p.112).

Harwood was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1919 and a Felllow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1939. He died in Radlett on 31 May 1953
