Robert Heywood Haslam was born in Rumworth, Lancashire, England on 8 March 1878 and was articled to C.F.A. Voysey (1857-1941) from December 1895 to October 1898.
The 1901 England census gives Haslam's occupation as Architect and Surveyor and his address as 196 Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, London. He appears to have been in partnership with Alfred Wickham Jarvis (1865-1945) in c.1900. Drawings by A. Wickham Jarvis of the exterior and interior of a house at Branksome for R.E. Haslam designed by A. Wickham and Haslam are illustrated in ‘Modern British Architecture and Decoration’ edited by Charles Holme (London: The Studio, 1901 pp.106, 107, 109). A tapestry designed by Haslam was shown in the 6th exhibition of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society in London in 1899.
By 1919 Haslam had moved to Wonersh, near Guildford, Surrey. In 1924 he was elected a member of the Art Workers Guild.
His address that year was given as Wonesh Mill, Wonesh, Surrey in 1919 and 1954. His office address was 73 St. James's Street, London in 1934. He died in in Wonersh, Surrey on 9 April 1954
