Horace John Helsdon was born in St. Marylebone, Middlesex [now London], England in 1868 and was articled to Thomas Durrans (1850-1923) in London in 1882 and subsequently worked as his managing assistant. He also attended the Architectural Association Schools in London, South Kensington Museum, and University College, London from 1886 to 1890. Helsdon qualified as an architect in 1891 and commenced practice as an architect in London in 1894 and was in partnership with Ernest Augustus Eckert Woodrow (1860-1937) until 1910.
Helsdon was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1892 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1905. He died in Islington, London on 7 February 1923.
