William Archibald Henderson [also known as W. A. Henderson] was born in Comseptión, Chile on 25 August 1914. Soon after he moved to England and was batised in London on 25 October 1914. He studied at the School of Architecture at Liverpool University where he was awarded a diploma with distinction and a Honan Travelling Scholarship (Liverpool) in 1937. He was also elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA).

Henderson gained early architectural experience in the USA in 1936; South America in 1937; and in London in 1938-39.  From 1940 to 1946 he served in the Royal Engineers on road and airfield construction, mainly in Turkey. He also served as a military attaché in Turkey.  

From 1946 he worked as an architect with Hertfordshire County Council.  Henderson collaborated with Charles Herbert Aslin (1893-1959), the County Architect for Hertfordshire in the design of Hampden Secondary School on the Exhey Estate in Hertfordshire for Hertfordshire County Council built in 1949-51.

Henderson died in Croydon, Surrey in 1973
