Geoffrey Brian Herbert was born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England on 2 September 1926 and studied at the University of Cambridge. By 1929 he had moved to London and was living at 64 Cambridge Terrace, Hyde Park. In 1932 he was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA). Four detached houses in Hampstead Garden Suburb designed by Herbert are discussed in Small Houses £500-£2500, edited by H. Myles Wright (1937 pp. 50-51).
In 1936 and 1927 Herbert's address was given as 24 Cornwood Close, Finchley, London. In the 1939 England and Wales Register it was given as 20 Arlington Drive, Nottingham, but he may only been a visitor as his address was again given as 24 Cornwood Close, Finchley in 1946. By 1975 he had moved to Sussex and his address was given as 4 Friston House, Selwyn Road, Eastbourne, which was still his address at the time of his death. He died in Eastbourne on 26 July 1992.
