Hewitt, Edward 1858 - 1930

Edward Hewitt was born in Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire, England on 7 November 1858 and was articled to Corbett, Sons & Brooke in Manchester during which time he attended Manchester School of Art. He then moved to London where he worked as an an assistant in the offices George Aitchison (1825-1910) and Rowland Plumbe (1938-1919). During his time in London he attended classes at the South Kensington Museum and the British Museum. He subsequently returned to Manchester where he set up his own architectural practice in 1885.

Hewitt was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1882 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1893. He was also a member of the Manchester Society of Architects.  By 1923 he had moved to Bournemouth, Hampshire [now Dorset]. His address was given as "The Plateau", Canford Cliffs, Bournemouth in 1923 and 1926.  He died in Poole, Dorset on 4 February 1930.
