Hewitt , Thomas Francis 1875 - 1916

Thomas Francis Hewitt was born in West Cowes. Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England on 7 June 1917. He was articled to Ernest Swane (1860-1944) in Newport, Isle of Wight from 1892 to 1896 and remained with him as an improver until 1897.  He also attended King's College, London and Chelsea School of Art.  He was employed as an assistant in the Architects' Department of Southampton Corporation from 1897 to 1900; to William Cecil Marshall (1849-1921) of Marshall & Vickers from 1900 to 1902; in the Architects' Deportment, Schools Division of Hampshire County Council in 1903-04; and in the Architects Department of Lincoln Corporation from 1904 until at least 1914.

Hewitt set up his own architectural practice in Putney, London in 1902 and in 1902 -03 was architect to Eaton Park Estate. In 1910 he was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA). His address was given as Rivehm, Newark Road, North Hykeham, Lincolnshire in 1916. He died on 17 October 1916. His death was reported in the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects February 1917 p.104

Has been associated with the architectural work in connection with the municipal works undertaken by the City of Lincoln during the past 7 years, principally with regard to the water scheme recently carried out at a cost of £250,000: also electricity works, hospital and municipal buildings, and layout of sites; has designed business premises In London and domestic buildings in the vicinity.
