Hick, Edwin Morcombe 1873 - 1952

Edwin Morcombe Hick was born in Avon [or Bath], Somerset, England in 26 October 1873.  After attending Bath School of Art in 1892-93, he was articled to Alfred Samuel Goodridge (1827?-1915) in Bath from 1893 to 1896. He also attended Architectural Association classes in London.  He was employed as an assistant to Mowbray Aston Green (1865-1945) in 1896, and, from 1896 in the office of H.M. Office of Works.  By 1914 he was on the permanent architectural staff of H.M. Office of Works (Department of Ancient Monuments and Historical Buildings).  He was the author of the The Official Handbook to Bath Cathedral.  He was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1910. By 1939 he had retired as an architect and was living in Bath, Somerset, where he died on 13 September 1952.
