Hodges, Henry Todd 1878 - 1958

Henry Todd Hodges was born in Gateshead, Durham, England on 28 March 1878. After working in the office of Gilson Kyle (1820-1903), he was articled to Edward Shewbrooks (1842-1910) in Newcastle upon Tyne from 1895 to 1899. He then remained with him as his assistant until 1903. He also attended Armstrong College in Newcastle upon Tyne.

In 1903 Shewbrooks took Hodges into partnership.   In 1908 Shewbrooks & Hodges submitted an entry for a competition to design municipal buildings in Bethnal Green, London.  Their designs are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 2, no. 15, February 1908 (pp. 98, 110, 111).  The partnership was dissolved following the death of Shewbrooks in 1910.   Hodges was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1910. In 1912 he emigrated to Australia, where he continued to practice as an architect.  His address was given as 58 Muston Street, Mosman, New South Wales in 1939. He died in Sydney, New South Wales on 21 March 1958.
