Henry Clifford Hollis was born in Bournemouth, Hampshire, England on 15 May 1883. After working in the office of Forsyth & Maule in 1901-02, he was articled to Charles Granville Baker in London in 1902-03. He also attended the Architectural Association Schools in London. He then worked as an assistant to Butler & Smith in 1903-04; Messrs. Eiloart in 1904-05; Young & Hall from 1905 to 1908; and to Parker & Unwin from 1908.
In 1908 he qualified as an architect and in 1910 was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architect (ARIBA). He practised as an architect in London from c.1910. From c.1913 to 1928 he was in partnership in London with Herbert Arthur Welch (1883-1953) as Welch & Hollis
Hollis's address was given as Wyldes, North End, Hampstead, London and 59 Crowndale Road, Oakley Square, London in 1910; 121 Brecknock Road, London in 1914; 7, New Square, Lincoln's Inn, London in 1923 and 1926; and 34 Paternoster Row, London in 1930 and 1939. He died in Finchley, Middlesex [now London] on 13 November 1946.
