Gordon Herbert George Holt was born in Hastings, Sussex, England in 1889* and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Architectural Association Schools in London. He was awarded the Silver Medal, Pugin Studentship, R.I.B.A. in 1920; and the Tite Prize, R.I.B.A. in 1921. He practised as an architect in London and was in partnership with Verner Owen Rees (1886-1966) as Holt & Rees. He also taught at the Architectural Association in London and at the Royal West of England Academy School of Architecture in Bristol.
Holt was architect of Soissons Memorial, a World War One memorial in Soissons, Aisne, France, and in 1928 he was awarded third prize in an architectural competition arranged by the Red Triangle Cement Organisation
In World War Holt served in the Royal Flying Corps. and was awarded the Air Force Cross. He died in Hastings, Sussex in 1934.
